About this calculator

A used car that looks cheap on day one can become expensive after refresh work and softer resale. This page focuses on that full approximate cost.

We highlight “Is this used car financially sensible?” using Estimated / Approximate / Indicative wording so you never confuse a model with a mandate to buy.

Formula summary

Purchase + refresh buffer + fuel + insurance + service − assumed resale.

Assumptions

  • Odometer and age inform residual assumptions only — they do not authenticate the meter.
  • Immediate repair buffers should cover tyres, battery, brakes and fluids at minimum.
  • Outputs are indicative; get a mechanical inspection.

FAQs

How much repair buffer is enough?

For 5+ year cars, many buyers keep ₹25,000–₹60,000 ready depending on segment. Raise it if tyres are old or service records are thin.

Will insurance be higher on used cars?

Own-damage falls with IDV, but add-ons and previous claims matter. Enter a realistic year-1 premium from a quote if you have one.

What if the tool says not clearly sensible?

Negotiate price, demand records, or compare with a newer listing. The verdict is approximate, not final.
